Intro to the Sermon on the Mount

Intro to the Sermon on the Mount

This coming weekend (Thursday night & Sunday Morning) we will be starting our journey through the longest recorded message of Jesus we call “the sermon on the mount.”

Here are a few things to consider as we get going.

1-We’re calling this series, “BUT JESUS SAID” because Jesus himself often says, “but I say to you…” It’s counter-cultural, counter-intuitive. Jesus words may cut, but they are intended to convict, encourage and set the record straight on what a disciple of His will look and live like.

2-Jesus, according to John 1:14, is full of GRACE and TRUTH. In this message He will lovingly, but clearly lay out what it looks like to truly follow Him.

3-The point of the sermon on the mount, like all of Scripture, is not just for information but for TRANSFORMATION. Be ready to hear…and OBEY!

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like  a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” (Matthew 7:24-27 ESV)
