Why do we do this?

Why do we do this?

We hear, “Don’t judge a book by its cover,” but we do it over and over again. As we move into James 2 this weekend we look at James’ strong challenge to NOT show favoritism.

Whether we quickly discount someone because of their age or we roll out the red carpet for someone who seems to have more money, favoritism has no place in the life of a follower of Jesus.

As I worked on this message it came to me how often I tend to think like this. We probably all have some work to do in this area. We need to realize our assumptions and conclusions about others (without all the information) can be quite damaging to us, them and the Body of Christ.

“If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right. But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers.” (James 2:8-9 NIV)
