Do you need to pray this?

Do you need to pray this?

The first three weeks of our series has focused on these two verses as we’ve looked at the lives and stories of Rahab, Ruth and Bathsheba (Uriah’s wife).

“Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah’s wife,” (Matthew 1:5-6 NIV)

Donnie shared the story of David and Bathsheba this weekend. While David was a “man after God’s own heart”, he seriously blew it in this story. Adultery and murder. WOW!

However, a major difference between King Saul and King David was their response when confronted with their sin. Saul made excuses, but David repented and sought God’s forgiveness. Psalm 51 is actually his prayer of confession. While there’s a lot there, maybe we could use these verses to inspire our own admission, confession and desire for God’s renewing…

“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.” (Psalm 51:10-12 NIV)
