Independence Day

“We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We’re going to live on! We’re going to survive! Today we celebrate … our Independence Day!” Movie fans already know where that quote came from. If you don’t know, it’s from the movie, Independence Day.

I now think of that quote every July 4th, and since it’s that time of year, let me pass it on to you.

I love the line, “We will not vanish without a fight.” Is it possible that we could see that quote in light of the spiritual battle we find ourselves in? If you’re from Community, we’ll be in this passage in just a few weeks…

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 6:10-12 NIV)
