A life worth giving away!
Jesus’ words in Matthew 16 have a real power and punch to them. If we want to save our life…we have to lose it, or give it away. What does that mean?
We said this weekend we’ve been made in the image of God…made on purpose for a purpose…and we have a high capacity for making a difference in this world. It’s all very true, but we have to be willing to share what God has given us. Our life is to be a gift to help others.
Clinging to stuff and wanting more and more is the opposite of God’s plan.
When we share our life and gifts and time with others, then we find joy, purpose, and real life. We get the experience of God flowing through us!
To get there, we have to take up that cross of self-denial and get to work giving our life away to benefit others.
“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?” (Matthew 16:24-26 NIV)
