I’m always looking to make sure people don’t get stuck. I want to make our next steps as clear as possible. For those of you who are newer to Community, here are a couple of key next steps. Even if you’re not “new”, these steps might just be the ones that get you unstuck in your faith journey.
FIRST STEP DINNER, May 9 from 6:00-8:00pm. First Step is your launching point here at Community. Come, grab some good food, meet some great people, and hear what makes this church tick. You’ll discover what’s going on around here, why we do what we do, and how you can get started making a difference.
SECOND STEP CLASS, May 11, 18, 25 from 7:00-8:30pm. You might have heard that you need to be reading your bible and praying, but you’re not sure how or what to do next. On three consecutive Wednesday evenings, Second Step will help you learn how to read your bible, give you practical direction in praying and more. New or not, this class may be just what you need to get things moving in the right direction.
To sign up for these next steps, simply email us: joni@community.cc, or call the office: 929-2135.
If you missed it, you can catch the beginning of our new series, Elephant in the Room, with guest Caleb Kaltenbach right HERE.
The feedback from this past weekend has been amazing. Thanks for being a great church to come and speak at. Caleb said this place was something really special!
I think he’s right! In fact, I’m proud of you Community!
Proud of your commitment to the mission.
Proud of your generosity, even with the state of our local economy.
Proud of your willingness to invite your friends.
Proud of your heart to serve others (on the weekend and throughout the week).
Now, I can’t wait to spend this Mother’s Day weekend with all of my FAMILY!
Stepping In: Getting things started!
1- Take a few minutes and introduce yourself to others in your group by completing any of the following phrases:
This past month, one of my favorite things to do was…
I know I need this LifeGroup because…
This summer, I’m really looking forward to…
2- Go over your “house rules”.
3- What really stood out to you about Caleb Kaltenbach’s message this past weekend?
Building Up: What is God Saying?
1 – Read John 8:2-5. Discuss the different people in this story and what they must have been feeling? (Pharisees, woman, Jesus, crowd)
2 – Read John 8:6. We don’t know what Jesus wrote, but take a moment to give your idea about what He might have written. Now, what is the power of Jesus’ taking the time to write in the dirt? How can a “pause” in a heated moment help the situation?
3 – Read John 8:7-9. How is Jesus’ memorable statement about throwing the first stone a game-changer?
4 – Read John 8:10-11. What do we learn from Jesus and His encounter with this woman after the crowd disperses?
5 – Which of Caleb’s statements regarding this story most resonated with you? Why?
1. Be known for what you’re for, not against.
2. A theological conviction shouldn’t be a catalyst to treat someone less.
3. Embrace the difference between acceptance and approval.
4. Realize the issue is identity, not sexuality.
5. God never called you to change a person’s sexual orientation– He called you to point people to Jesus.
Living Out: How do I obey?
1- What is one thing you can take from this study to help you as you deal with others in your life who may be living at odds with the will of God?
2 – What are some ways we can regularly pray for each other in this LifeGroup?
We begin our new series, “The Elephant in the Room” this weekend…and I can’t wait!
We’ll kick it off with our special guest, author and pastor Caleb Kaltenbach. He recently wrote MESSY GRACE, and it’s a timely, practical book for the culture we live in today. Trust me, you’re not going to want to miss his incredible story and his powerful message. We’ll have books for you this weekend if you’d like to purchase one.
This week will be truly special. So, invite, invite, INVITE! Bring your friends and family.
