The key to having other people listen to your story is actually quite simple. LISTEN TO THEIRS!
We talked about this over the weekend, but I wanted to get it out there one more time. There are so many great things that can happen when we start listening and quit trying to always do ALL the talking.
Listening can help you know where your stories connect.
Debt, drugs, loneliness, divorce, loss of a child…..
Listening can help you hear their heart.
Better life for their children, make a difference in the Valley…
Listening can help you see what God sees in them.
He loved them enough to DIE FOR THEM!
As you continue to pray for others on your top ten list and your neighbors all around you, watch for the opportunities God gives you to listen.
Stepping In: Getting things started!
1- What might be a perception of the “church” today, whether accurate or not, that hurts our ability to be effective?
2- What practical steps can we take to change those perceptions or even the ones of our personal lives?
3- What about this weekend’s message helped you see how to connect with our Valley in a different or more effective way?
Building Up: What is God Saying?
Read John 4:3-9. Jesus was very intriguing to this woman. What do we learn about His approach that might help us in our approach to family members, co-workers and neighbors?
Read John 4:10-15. How is Jesus’ use of talking about “living water” next to a well a key to help us in our conversations where we’re trying to point people to Jesus? What are some of the most common surface conversations we have with others and what might be a way to redirect those conversations to something more significant? (Give specific examples.)
Read John 4:16-26. Jesus, although speaking the truth about her situation, does not come across judgmental. Why does His approach work better than pointing fingers and condemning others? Even though she changes the subject, how does Jesus still take the conversation where it needs to go? What have you learned through their exchange?
Read John 4:28-30. What is so profound about her simple story? What made people listen to her?
Read John 4:39-42. Jesus transforms an entire town because one woman was willing to tell her story. What are some practical ways you can get your story told to the people in your circle of influence? How has someone’s story helped draw you closer to God?
Living Out: How do I obey?
1- You may have done this before, but briefly hit the highlights of your story. Simply take turns finishing each phrase:
Before I really knew Jesus I was…
I met Jesus because…
Since Jesus is in my life, I now…
2 – This is our last week to gather our EGGS for the Easter Egg Hunt and get them to the Church building by March 20th. THANK YOU!!
Easter with Community at the Hemet High Stadium (at the corner of Stanford & Stetson in Hemet) is a huge, fun party! Jesus isn’t dead. HE IS ALIVE! That miraculous, grave-conquering, death-defeating moment in human history is worth celebrating.
It will be big & loud. We have a a very powerful and talented band that will fill the open air stadium with some amazing music.
It will be a party. Kids will have fun. There’s over 11,000 Easter Eggs along with massive jumpies that cover the length of a football field. But know this…It won’t just be the children who are having fun.
It’s a celebration. We’re celebrating God’s love. His power. Jesus’ sacrifice. His grace. Our hope…because of Him. It’s all worth celebrating!
Come join the fun on Sunday, March 27th in the Hemet High Stadium. The party starts at 9:00am.
We started our series, CHANGE, with a powerful weekend at Community. In case you missed it, here’s WEEK 1.
It’s not always easy to hear what people say about our Valley, but it might just help us know how much this place needs the touch of God. Here’s one I shared this past weekend:
Hemet is…hard hit by the recession. House prices have dropped significantly leaving most homeowners in Hemet upside-down on their mortgages. A booming city full of growth and hope in the early 2000’s has turned into a city full of lost dreams.
It’s time to bring hope and dreams back to the San Jacinto Valley. Do your very best to make every week of this series as we lead into Easter in the Stadium on March 27th. God can and will do something really powerful through a group of people who truly love those around them. We’ll talk about what that might look like in seriously practical terms this coming weekend.
Keep praying for your 10!!!
