Pursuing Jesus

This weekend I was flooded with memories of two very special people.

It was six years ago this past Saturday my mom went HOME to be with Jesus. And on this date, three years ago, Jeremy Thompsen got to hear those words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Each of these unique individuals deliberately served others in the name of Jesus. They both had a huge impact on many, including our Community family.

As one of our pastors, Jeremy was an amazing example of what it looks like to put others first. He loved and hugged and encouraged so many. We miss him. I miss him!

May we all strive to be in pursuit of Jesus, as these two were!

“But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”  (Mark 10:43-45 NLT)

Who you got?

One of the keys of our growth at Community has been the commitment we have to being an “inviting” church. We pray for, love and serve at least five people (we call our TOP FIVE). These five are people God has placed in our lives. We know He loves them and we are committed to love them as well.

As we develop these relationships, we prayerfully watch for moments to share our story and invite them to come to a worship service with us. We know if we can introduce our friends to Jesus, everything can change for them!

I have some on my list who have been on my list for years without much movement. However, I will not give up on them…because I know God hasn’t.

Who’s your TOP FIVE? Keep loving, serving, sharing and inviting!!

Does a church have a SOUL?

This weekend at Community I’ll be giving our “Soul of the Church” message as we set the stage for the next several months of ministry. I can’t wait to preach live again, and I can’t wait to look at what’s been happening with our church this year.

I don’t often use this blog to promote a weekend service, but this is special. I know it’s Labor Day weekend and some of you may be gone on Sunday, so please join us Thursday night for dinner at 5:30 and worship at 6:30pm.

We are in the midst of one of our best years at Community. It’s time to look at how we will continue to join God in His mission.

With all the new people who’ve joined us in 2024, we thought we’d have a NAME TAG weekend. So, when you get to your service, please put your name on a name tag and wear it. Thanks!

What are you asking for?

Prayer is amazing. Prayer is so much more than just asking for things, but it IS a part of our intimate conversation with God. So…what are you asking for?

Is it health? Relationship help? Financial deliverance? Salvation for a friend?

All of these are great, and we should be talking to our loving Father about what concerns us. But there is one thing God is EXCITED to give us if we’ll just ask. What is it? That’s actually the wrong question. The right question is WHO is it?

“So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.” (Luke 11:13 NLT)

Why should you try this?

In order to make more room at our most full services (9:30 & 11:00am on Sundays), we need you to try the Thursday night 6:30pm or the Sunday morning 8:00am service.

Thursday is unique because Thursday night has dinner at 5:30pm and ice cream following the 6:30pm service! It’s awesome for the whole family.

But we also have an early service on Sunday’s at 8:00am. Here are this weeks’ TOP FIVE reasons why you should give the Sunday 8:00am service a try:

   5-It’s cooler and you won’t melt as you walk to your car after the service!

   4-You’ll make it home in time for ALL of the football games (even though it’s just pre-season for two more weeks).

   3-After church you could make it to the beach by 10:30am and enjoy the rest of your Sunday there!

   2-You get FIRST PICK of the Sunday donuts!

   1-You get to help make room in our really full 9:30 & 11:00 Sunday services!
