Complete the Joy
“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete.” (1 John 1:1-4 NIV)
I was reading this earlier in the week, and then I heard Pastor Tom use this passage Wednesday night with our High Schoolers. He was talking about the fellowship and genuine community we are invited into as a part of the family of God. He emphasized what real community looks like as we experience what God intended for us.
He made some great points, but I couldn’t quit looking at that last line. “We write this to make our joy complete.” The reason it struck me the other day in my daily reading and the reason it hit me again Wednesday night was this reality: The joy is not truly complete…until we SHARE IT WITH OTHERS!
So, who are you inviting to join in the fellowship, the community of believers this weekend. If you want to experience complete joy, introduce someone to Jesus!
