Building Up: What is God Saying?

Read 1 Samuel 20:1-4. What do you learn about a “true friend” when you read the story of David and Jonathan?

Read 1 Samuel 20:12-17. After reading these verses, finish the following thoughts:

(1) Jonathan’s level of commitment to David is amazing because…

(2) This was a “life or death” situation, I remember a friend was there for me at a critical time when…

(3) Things included in a friend “covenant” should be…

Look at each of these Proverbs and then answer this: Which verse of these three encourages you, challenges or helps you in some way the most right now…and why?

Proverbs 25:13 (MSG) Reliable friends who do what they say are like cool drinks in sweltering heat—refreshing!

Proverbs 18:24 (MSG) Friends come and friends go, but a true friend sticks by you like family.

Proverbs 17:17 (MSG) Friends love through all kinds of weather, and families stick together in all kinds of trouble.
