Nothing changes until you put your foot in!
Years ago, when our Megan was about eight years old, we found ourselves on the beach during a cold November day. As cold as the water was, she was determined to get in…all the way in! She decided not to mess around much with testing the water, she knew it was cold. She just jumped in, put her head clear under the oncoming waves…and out she came. She did it! Mission accomplished!!
A few thousand years ago the nation of Israel found themselves at the banks of the swollen Jordan river. Needing to cross, their only hope was to follow God’s instructions. Those instructions were basically to have the priests go first and put their feet in the water, THEN you will see God do His thing.
“The people left their tents to cross the Jordan, led by the priests carrying the Chest of the Covenant. When the priests got to the Jordan and their feet touched the water at the edge (the Jordan overflows its banks throughout the harvest), the flow of water stopped. It piled up in a heap—a long way off—at Adam, which is near Zarethan. The river went dry all the way down to the Arabah Sea (the Salt Sea). And the people crossed, facing Jericho.
And there they stood; those priests carrying the Chest of the Covenant stood firmly planted on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan while all Israel crossed on dry ground. Finally the whole nation was across the Jordan, and not one wet foot.” (Joshua 3:14-17 MSG)
As we enter 2018, what are you clearly hearing God say to you? What is your next step of obedience, even though you’re unsure of how God is going to hold up His end of the deal?
All I can say is, put those feet in!
