In my daily reading this year, I’m using the ESV (English Standard Version). It’s a great, literal translation of the Bible. However, there are certain verses I love with the extra word pictures given in the MSG (The Message) Bible. So, when I came across these verses yesterday, I switched over to the MSG to soak them up.
When it comes to difficult times in this life, there are few verses that add the perspective we need like this one in 2 Corinthians. Keep in mind, Paul’s readers were being imprisoned and thrown to the lions…so it’s not a subtle kind of suffering and difficulty they were facing.
“So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.” (2 Corinthians 4:16-18 MSG)
