I want to take a moment to get you up to speed in case you are new to Community or missed our explanation of how we’re changing our service days we call The Big Serve.
For about 8 years we would pick a weekend in the Spring, dismiss all weekend services, and go serve. We’d have projects going all over our Valley. In recent years, we realized it was time for a change. So, here’s our new plan:
We are choosing 3 Saturday mornings a year to organize massive service opportunities in our Valley. This Fall, November 19, we’ll be joining forces to help clean up a number of under-funded nursing homes and senior rehabilitation centers.
We’ll be cleaning, trimming bushes, weeding, painting, fixing…and…in a few cases, going inside to visit with people who don’t always get visitors.
So, if the physical stuff is not your cup of tea, please sign up to go and visit with some people, let them know they’re loved and pray for them.
“Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16 MSG)
