This is the most amazing news in the history of humanity. As we continue our series HIStory this weekend, I get to look at the impact of Jesus’ victory over death.

His resurrection still has major implications for our lives today. I can’t wait to dig into this one with you. Yes, we dealt with it on Easter, as we should, but with our current series, I get to take another shot at it. Too cool!!

Because of the resurrection, the reality of this promise has some meat to it:

1 Corinthians 2:9 (NIV) However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”—the things God has prepared for those who love him—

Today my parents celebrate another anniversary. Anytime someone has been married 50+ years, it’s significant. For Bob and Phyl Scott, it’s more than that.

Their marriage has been a blessing to me and my sister, but also to hundreds and thousands of others who have been touched by their lives.

Thanks mom and dad. I am forever grateful for you both and the commitment you’ve had for each other…and the way you have shared that commitment with us all.

Read John 13:14-17. Jesus has just washed His disciple’s feet. What is the real power of His example for us today? How have you seen the “blessing” promised in verse 17?

Read John 14:1-4. Why would Jesus give them this information now? Why is it important for us to see the conclusion of things when we’re in the middle of it all? (Also see John 16:33.)

Read John 15:5-8. What is the lesson for you in these verses?

Read John 17:20-21. What does the world say when we, as His followers, are NOT united? What’s something we can do to work on this?

Read John 19:30. What is the significance of this moment for us, even 2,000 years later?

Living Out: How do I obey?

2. Plan a service project you can do as a group.

The power of these two verses is so important, I want you to soak it up.

Galatians 2:20-21 (NIV) “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”

This weekend we’ll take a closer look at the beautiful reality of the fact that Jesus did NOT die for nothing. And now, we can live for something!

While invited to be a part of a special wedding on the coast this weekend, Michelle and I took advantage of it and got away for a few days. We were blessed by attending another church on Sunday, but ALWAYS miss our family here at Community. We were both seriously encouraged when these words showed up on my Facebook page from Casie Husby.

Great service last night. Mikel sure knows how to deliver God's word! Must be nice knowing you have such an AMAZING team of leaders and volunteers who take care of everything while you are away. JoAnne was greeting people with hugs, Joni was helping to run the ice cream cafe, Steve was handing out programs with his big Cheshire Cat smile, Zach was making people laugh, leading communion, and reminding us all what God did for us. So proud to be a part of this church family. I know God is smiling down and that if our visitors last night didn't know who Jesus was, that they sure do now. Thanks Community! By the way we missed you and Michelle too. See you soon.
