Do you see it clearly?

This week we’ve looked at Psalm 1. Here’s the final verse:

“For the Lord watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.”  (Psalm 1:6 NLT)

There are clear blessings for following God and His wisdom. Staying connected to Him is obviously the key.

I love looking at familiar passages through different translations. Psalm 1 in The Message is one of my all time favorites!! Check it out:

“How well God must like you—you don’t walk in the ruts of those blind-as-bats, you don’t stand with the good-for-nothings, you don’t take your seat among the know-it-alls.

Instead you thrill to God’s Word, you chew on Scripture day and night. You’re a tree replanted in Eden, bearing fresh fruit every month, Never dropping a leaf, always in blossom.

You’re not at all like the wicked, who are mere windblown dust—Without defense in court, unfit company for innocent people.

God charts the road you take. The road they take leads to nowhere.”  (Psalm 1:1-6 MSG)

Where are your roots going?

More than once God’s Word gives us the image of trees using their roots to get the water and nourishment they need. In Psalm one we get one of my favorite pictures…and contrasts.

Remember, verses 1-2 talked about those who delight in the Lord and in His wisdom. Then verse 3 continues…

“They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.

But not the wicked! They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind. They will be condemned at the time of judgment. Sinners will have no place among the godly.”  (Psalm 1:3-5 NLT)

And there’s that contrast again. Kind of like the book of Proverbs contrasting wise and foolish people, here again it shows us the choice we have to make.

So, where are your roots getting their nourishment?

The first chapter of the book of Psalms comes out with clarity, wisdom and a plan of action. This week we’ll look at these verses. Today, just the first two.

“Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.

But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night.”  (Psalm 1:1-2)

Where do you get your advice? Where do you gain your wisdom? Where do feel most connected when you’re looking for good information?

There’s a clear choice we must make when we begin to soak up wisdom. We need to make sure that wisdom is biblically based.

So, let me ask again… where do you get your advice?
