I’m a quote guy. Sometimes a well-crafted sentence will stop me in my tracks for a good while. Here’s one from the prolific C. S. Lewis:

“What matters, what Heaven desires and Hell fears, is precisely that further step, out of our depth, out of our own control.”

The challenge before all of us in The Epic Life is one of release. That most important next step is one of total trust. We step out of our control and completely into His.

If you’ve been wondering why you’re struggling with certain aspects of this new journey it’s all about this step. So let me ask you a few penetrating questions.

Are you positive God really knows best for you?

Are you certain that following Him in EVERY way will be the right thing to do?

Are you absolutely sure that He knows more than you, even about your own life?

If so…stop worrying and trust Him…COMPLETELY.

Read Matthew 6:25-34 and then be reassured that He’s got you in His hands.

The more we spend time with Him every day, the more we love Him, the more we’ll realize we can completely trust Him.

Read the words of this old hymn out loud:

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way

To be happy in Jesus. But to trust and obey.

Prayer thought:

Worry=lack of faith=sin=death.

Worry is one of those “socially acceptable” sins. We can come into our Christian circles and talk about our worry openly and not feel judged. Mostly because those you are talking to can relate to that sin so it is less offensive. The point here is not to hide from friends the fact that we worry, but rather to confess and move towards a life where faith replaces our worry.

Jesus commands us in Matthew not to worry. He tells us this for our own good to increase our faith and dependence on Him. If we are being totally honest, for most of us, Jesus alone is not enough. It is easy to say that He is when we have everything we need, but when our car, our home, our job, or even our family is threatened, we can worry ourselves physically ill. In Philippians, Paul writes about true contentment. He knows what it is like to starve and what it is like having more than enough. And he knows the secret to being equally content in both situations is Christ and Christ alone.

Ask the Lord to reveal areas that you have not yet been able to surrender fully to Him. Confess those areas of your life where you are not yet fully trusting God. (I am confessing right alongside of you!) Ask for the same power that rose Christ’s dead body from the grave to become alive in you, and for the ability to trust completely and to obey completely.
