Perspective in the pain

Perspective in the pain

Perspective is something we gain in worship, in study and sometimes just simply looking up. For me, sunsets have always been God’s, not so subtle, reminder He is still large and in charge.

I took this picture Sunday evening, the day of the church shooting in Texas. 26 were murdered, including the Pastor’s 14 year old daughter. The church shooting reminded us how bad things can get. Throughout the relentless barrage of pain we witness on the nightly news, we need to be constantly reminded of the good God can and does bring into our lives.

The pain doesn’t have to be on the news to affect us. It could be our own pain, our own circumstances that are leaving us with a desperate need for perspective. So here it is. His love is absolutely amazing. Look at this description in Psalm 36 and take in the truth of it.

“God’s love is meteoric, His loyalty astronomic, His purpose titanic, His verdicts oceanic. Yet in His largeness nothing gets lost; Not a man, not a mouse, slips through the cracks.
How exquisite your love, O God! How eager we are to run under your wings, to eat our fill at the banquet you spread as you fill our tankards with Eden spring water. You’re a fountain of cascading light, and you open our eyes to light.” (Psalm 36:5-9 MSG)
