Stepping In: Getting things started!
1 – Who are some of the people in your life who’ve been examples and encouragers to you in a personal way? What did they do and how did it have an impact on your life?
2 – What do you wish someone would have taught you when you were younger? (If you’re still pretty young, talk about what you’d like to learn from someone.)
3 – What’s a life experience of your own that you could use to help someone coming up behind you in age?
Building Up: What is God Saying?
Read 2 Cor. 1:1; Phil. 1:1; Col. 1:1; 1 Thess. 1:1; 2 Thess. 1:1; 1 Tim. 1:1-2: What do you notice right away about the opening of many of Paul’s letters to different churches? What does this say about his commitment to Timothy as a young leader?
Read 2 Timothy 1:5: What are some of the ways parents and grandparents can pass on the baton of faith?
Read 1 Timothy 4:12: Why do we need to remind younger people the power of being “different in a good way”? What are some ways we can encourage this in others who are behind us in the journey?
Read 2 Timothy 2:2: What are some important keys listed here to help create more leaders? What are others you can think of?
Read 2 Timothy 3:14-17: How can we help people see that our example is secondary to the authority of God’s Word? What can we do to ensure the next generation has the Word of God firmly in their grasp?
Read 2 Timothy 4:9-13: Why do we need to be working with more than one person at a time? What are the values of “team” mentoring?
Living Out: How do I obey?
1 – Help each other create a plan to start helping someone younger. What do we need to do on our end, and what can we ask them to do on their end?
2 – We all can still be learning from someone, no matter how old we are. Share with the group something you’d like to learn more about and a possible mentor for that area.
3 – How’s that Service Project coming? Please let us know what you did and how it went: lin@community.cc
