When you think about worship, what comes to mind? Music, communion, offering, Bible lesson, fellowship… There are many aspects that all come together to help us in our worship experience. However, the true heart of worship isn’t about these things, it’s about why we do them.

In re-reading some of my highlights from Rick Warren’s, What On Earth Am I Here For?, I found this gem:

In today’s competitive culture we are taught to never give up and never give in — so we don’t hear much about surrendering. If winning is everything, surrendering is unthinkable. We would rather talk about winning, succeeding, overcoming, and conquering than yielding, submitting, obeying, and surrendering. But surrendering to God is the heart of worship. It is the natural response to God’s amazing love and mercy. We give ourselves to him, not out of fear or duty, but in love, “because he first loved us.”

Whether on vacation or at home with our church family at Community, whenever we worship, we should make it more and more about HIM and less and less about us.

It really is an opportunity to tell Him once again, “I LOVE YOU. Thank You for giving Your life for me. And, since you died for me, I’m going to live every moment of every day for You!”
