Are you growing?
Have you ever met anyone who’s gone to church for 30 years and is still as crabby, cranky and whiny as anyone else? Sure. But, how can that be???
Somehow we’ve equated length of time in church with maturity. However, the key is not “time served” but rather time becoming more like JESUS. Much of the New Testament reminds us how much we need each other, we need the church, we need the encouragement…but the purpose is to grow.
We do believe our Rooted and LifeGroups are a key to our growth, which is why we talk about them so often. They will help you relationally be connected so you have the right people around you helping you grow. And remember, growth is the goal!
Peter lays it out this way…and I love it:
“In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone. The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ” (2 Peter 1:5-8 NLT)
