Life is full of disappointments. There are too many times to count where our expectations aren’t met.

However, there are also those times when our expectations are exceeded! Here’s an example from early this week.

My daughter, Megan, and I went to an Angels game. It was just a good chance for the two of us to hang out. I had the tickets, and although they were in the upper level, it was a beautiful night.

Then, during the very first inning, a lady came up to the two of us and gave us Angels hats. Wow. That was nice, and random! But I said, “thank you.” Then she said, “they’re from your friend Cory.” That’s when we turned around and looked up the aisle and saw Cory Marshall. Cory grew up at Community, and besides working at Eastside Christian Church in Anaheim, he also works for the Angels.

We thanked him and talked for a minute and then he said, “Hey, would you like better seats?” Of course we said yes. He instructed us to wait here and he’ll text us if he can find something. Three minutes later we got the text and wound up on the field level!!!

I share this story with this in mind. There is ONE who is just above us, sometimes out of sight, who has better plans for us. Our Father in heaven doesn’t just have a big heart, He has the ability to exceed our expectations, and often does. All of this reminded me of one of my favorite verses.

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21 NIV)

We’ll be talking about prayer this weekend. Before we do, as you pray, don’t forget WHO you’re talking to. He’s the one who can do “immeasurably more!”
