Did you hear this one?
I really loved this quote Donnie shared with us this weekend. It’s from the book Practicing the Way by John Mark Comer.
“As a general rule, we become more loving by experiencing love, not by hearing about it in a lecture or reading about it in a book. Psychologists’ basic rule of thumb is that we are loving to the degree that we have been loved. This is why it’s so much easier for those who were well loved by their parents or caregivers in their early years to give and receive love as adults. That said, no family of origin is healthy enough to transform us into the kind of love we see in Jesus, and no family is dysfunctional enough to keep us from becoming people of love in Jesus. All of us have the potential to grow and mature into people of agape. But to do so, we have to experience the love of God.”
The more time we spend with God, the more we experience His love.
“God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.” (1 John 4:9-10 NLT)
