Yes, I’ve been gone a lot this summer. Between a conference in Indiana, speaking in Kentucky, a mission trip with our team to Kenya and some much needed vacation time in London and San Clemente…I’ve been gone! But then, maybe you already noticed.

I say “maybe” because some of you have been gone more than me this summer. HA! However, now with school back in full swing…so are you.

Let me tell you about some of the things I’ve learned through these different opportunities.

1-God is up to some pretty amazing stuff all around the world. Being able to worship in six different churches in the weekends I was away from home really was great. I felt refreshed, rejuvenated, blessed, inspired and so much more. Sometimes I was speaking and at others I was a stranger in a crowd of fellow Christ-followers.

2-There is more than one way to do “church”. Ministries, missions and God’s work in general do NOT all look the same. God is an extremely creative God. I loved seeing the different expressions of worship, evangelism, fellowship, and so much more in all of these different places.

3-The need to intentionally connect with family is growing. With both of our girls living out of the area, it was really important for me to be able to spend some extended time with them. And, of course, my time with Michelle was really great! Let me just add…Michelle and I absolutely loved London and wouldn’t mind going back there again some time.

4-I don’t know who said it, but I think they’re dead on: The man who burns the candle at both ends isn’t as bright as he thinks he is.” I take Friday’s off as a regular and intentional plan to not “burn out”. Extended vacations also give me the time to be refreshed and recharged. Thank you all for your prayers. Your support and love mean a whole lot to me and my family.

One last thing for today. Our staff is amazing!!! We didn’t miss a beat this summer and I just want to thank our staff and ministry volunteers who make Community the special place that it is. I also want to thank Mikel, Zach and Don Hinkle who all did a great job teaching in my absence.

I’m truly able to relax when I’m supposed to be relaxing because of the commitment of so many great people. Thank you!!!

See you this weekend!
