Building Up: What is God Saying?
1- Read 1 Samuel 13:16-23. This is important background for the story in chapter 14. What, in these verses, stand out as the important details?
2- Read 1 Samuel 14:1-3. It’s just a guess…but what might be some of the reasons Jonathan went out on his own? Why didn’t he tell anyone where he was going?
3- Read 1 Samuel 14:4-6. What is CRAZY about Jonathan’s plan? What does this say about his view of God?
4- Read 1 Samuel 14:7. Jonathan’s armor bearer seems to be remarkable in his own way. What’s it like to have a true friend who has your back? Give an example of a time a friend was “all in” with you even though the odds were against you.
5- Read 1 Samuel 14:8-12. What’s wrong with Jonathan’s strategy? What’s right with it? These two, even though it was crazy, wanted to be spotted. That was their sign. What might happen if more people knew of your faith in Jesus?
6- Read 1 Samuel 14:13-14. These two win a small battle that actually changes the course of the war. They gave hope to the Israelite army and we can read about it in the following verses. How does that help you take on a challenge although it seems to be small when compared to some larger issues?
Living Out: How do I obey?
1- Share with your group a “hill” you want to take…even though the odds are against you.
2- What is a service project your LifeGroup can do together between now and Thanksgiving? Is there a family you could help?
