Building Up: What is God Saying? 

Read Luke 14:25-26. What is Jesus saying here? What does He mean by “hate”? What problems arise when people put their marriage or their children BEFORE God in the order of priority?

Read Luke 14:27. The people of Jesus’ day didn’t know about the resurrection yet. In their culture, how did they “hear” what Jesus was saying about taking up their cross and following Him? Give examples of how Jesus might say this today.

Read Luke 14:28-32. How do Jesus’ words here help you understand how we should go about making our commitments? What else do you learn from these verses?

Read Luke 14:33. How can we “give up everything” and still keep our marriage, kids, job, house, etc.? How does this work? What does He mean??

Read Luke 14:34-35. Go also to Matthew 5:13-16. Now, what does salt mean? What does it mean to lose our saltiness?
