Stepping In: Getting things started!
1- Who did you argue or fight with most while growing up? What were some of the core issues of why you argued with that person?
2- What purchase brought the most strife or trouble in your life, marriage or family?
3- Why do you think arguing and selfishness are so directly connected?
Building Up: What is God Saying?
Read James 4:1-10. Now answer the following questions:
1- In the first couple of verses, James reminds us of what’s at the heart of most relationship problems. How does that seem to be true in your own experiences?
2- When you read, “You don’t have because you don’t ask,” how does that make you look at your prayer life in a new way? What do I need to keep in mind when I ask for things?
3- What makes up “friendship with the world” in terms of our lives and culture today? In what ways do we need to be very careful as we consider ourselves “in the world, but not of it”?
4- How have you seen verse six about God opposing the proud, but giving grace to the humble lived out in your experiences?
5- Read verses 7-9 and then wrestle with this question: What do you learn from this right now with what’s going on in your life?
6- Give examples of how you know verse 10 is true!
Living Out: How do I obey?
1- Share with your group one area in which you want to express more humility and share how that will change things in your relationships.
2- If you haven’t done a service project this summer, GET ON IT!
