Most of the time it’s not greed that keeps people from being generous with all that God has provided. Greed can and does do its damage, especially in our American culture today. However, more than greed, one other thing stands in the way of really being generous and investing in what God is up to: FEAR.
“WHAT IF” is all it takes to stop good intentions in their tracks. What if I lose my job? What if I don’t have enough at the end of the month? What if…?
That question, which has its roots deeply embedded in fear, stops more people from giving and enjoying being generous than anything else I know. Strange thing is…if fear wins out, it says very clearly that we don’t really trust God.
“Any fear associated with giving to God’s kingdom is irrational.” (Andy Stanley, Fields of Gold)
You probably read that too fast. Read it again.
You’ll hear me say this again in the future, but here goes: How can we trust God with our ETERNAL DESTINY and not trust Him with our stuff?
I’m proud of so many of you who, through The Epic Life, have seriously grown in your generosity. Faith is winning over fear, over greed and over anything else that tries desperately not to let God have our whole heart.
Keep it up. The journey is one that just keeps getting better and better!
