Jesus said something about going into a closet to pray. He doesn’t mean it literally has to be a closet, but he does mean there are times when it needs to be private. A closet provides some things that are worth noting:

Lack of distractions. (unless all you can see is the need to reorganize said closet.)

Privacy.

Quiet.

I also want to suggest to you the power of finding other unique places with similar characteristics. Mine are outside. Sometime I can be in my car, in a parking lot. I’ll park out in the area where no other cars dare to park because it’s just too far from the store. Sometimes I’ll pray as I walk. I don’t pray out loud when I walk, but it does give me another important reminder concerning prayer: God is with me every step of the way!

But my favorite, you guessed it, is in God’s beautiful creation. We have some amazing views of our Valley that are just a bike ride away. I can sit up there and talk to God about our Valley. There is no distraction, but the needs of our Valley. There is all the privacy I need, until another biker or hiker comes by. There is quiet. Yes, quiet.
