We’ll look more deeply into this on the weekend, but today I just want this truth to begin to sink in.
Some of you are your own worst critic. You always notice how much better you could have done this or said that. However, while striving for excellence is important, we need to also see our PROGRESS along the way as a real victory.
No, I sure don’t always have the right attitude, but I can see a difference…some progress in the way I respond to many situations.
“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.” (Philippians 3:12 NIV)
We won’t “obtain” it or “arrive” at it until Christ returns. In the meantime, quit beating yourself up when you fall short of perfection and start hearing His voice whisper in your ear, “Way to go!” when you’re making some progress. Becoming like Jesus is a LIFETIME journey. Celebrate the progress along the way. He does!
Oh, and by the way parents, this is a great reminder for you as you raise your kids. Don’t hold out for perfection. Celebrate progress!
