I absolutely loved Robert Morris’ illustration during this past weekend’s message regarding “giving” something that isn’t ours to give. Remember? He talked about a friend using his car for a week. When the friend brought him the keys, he told Robert that he and his wife would like to GIVE him the car. “What?? It IS my car. It’s not yours to give. You’re just returning it!”

After the story he went on to explain how many people get confused about the tithe. He covers it again in his book as well:

“Tithing isn’t really giving— it’s returning. It is bringing back to the Lord what is already His. Thus, the second principle of multiplication is that finances over and above the tithe must be shared if they are to multiply.” -The Blessed Life, Robert Morris

Now, let’s get practical and real. The next time you bring your tithe to God…remember, it’s already His. You’re just returning it. It’s why the Bible talks about “tithes” AND “offerings.” Our giving really starts after the tithe is returned.

I’m praying that you’re discovering a better way to do life…The Blessed Life!
