The Supreme Court released their Same Sex Marriage ruling the last day Michelle and I were at our North American Christian Convention. I wanted to write that day but with so much going on, I opted to let a few days go by.

Over the course of the last several days I’ve read good articles and went through a total wave of emotions watching the reactions of Facebook. The most disturbing were actually from “Christians.”

Now with a little time and a lot of reflection, I have one specific comment and then I’ll share what were a few of the most helpful articles I saw.

First the comment: Unconditional Love does not mean that I let those I love do whatever they want to do. As a parent, it’s not unconditional love to let my children play in the street when they’re two years old. If a good friend is heading down a road and the bridge is out, it’s not unconditional to let them drive off the cliff. The loving thing to do would be to stand in the road and warn them with everything I’ve got.

Yes we are to love others, especially those who think differently, because Jesus died for us all and we ALL need His grace. I’m a sinner too. I’m not better than anybody else. I need love, you need love and every person we come in contact with needs love. The only place we all find perfect love is from Jesus. Our job is to help people connect to Him and His unconditional love.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34-35)

We’re called by our Lord to love each other. No one questions that, but Jesus himself, with the love that took Him to the cross, would also say to those He unconditionally loved, “go and sin no more.” He knew what was best for them.

Now, here are a few articles for those of you who really want to get a better understanding of all that is going on, and more importantly, how to talk to those who disagree with your views of how God looks at all of this. Simply click on the each on of the descriptions below for the link to their blog/article.

In all of this, keep in mind, God is still on His throne. Nothing here has caught Him by surprise. We can’t control everything that happens around us, but lets make sure that we are really good at loving people in the midst of it all.
