Are you tired?
I didn’t sleep well last night. However, tired is not just being without some needed sleep. Sometimes tired is an emotional or relational or even a spiritual thing. It could be the result of prolonged challenges, illnesses or storms in our lives.
When I get to Matthew 11 and see Jesus’ famous words re-translated with a modern twist, it resonates. Eugene Petterson translated the entire Bible into “street language” so that anyone could understand it. Well, Matthew 11 is one of my favorite expressions of his work.
I know too many people who are tired…for a myriad of reasons. So, if that’s you, take the time to read through this one a few times. Then thank Jesus for His invitation.
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” (Matthew 11:28-30 MSG)
