Are any of you big fans of The Princess Bride movie? I am. One great feature to the storyline was the phrase, “as you wish.” Whenever Buttercup asked the farm boy to do something, in order to express his complete love for her, he would simply say, “As you wish.”

John Ortberg, in God is Closer than You Think, jumps from this plot to ours:

“For many centuries, those wisest among us about the spiritual life have insisted that this one line is the door that opens the heart to the presence of God. There is no greater expression of love than a freely submitted will. As you wish.”

Read John 15:9-17.

Now tell Jesus, AS YOU WISH!

Prayer thought:

John 15 paints a clear picture for us about love. It tells us to love the way Christ does, wiling to lay down our life for one another. That doesn’t mean that you are off the hook as long as the opportunity never presents itself to physically die for someone you love.

For most of us, that will never happen. It means to live a life prepared to die for someone. It means putting their needs, their wants, above your own. It means unselfishly serving your spouse, parent, sibling, and co-worker; and expecting NOTHING in return. I don’t know what that looks like for you, and if you don’t either, ask for some revelation today!
