Have you ever lost sleep over a purchasing decision? If you’re like me you have. Buying a house or a car or any other big ticket item can be stressful. Is this the right thing to do? Can I make the payments? What if…?

The irony is, we don’t actually own anything. Not one thing!

God owns everything.

I’m His money manager.

God makes this principle abundantly clear in His Word:

“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; …” (Psalm 24:1 NIV)

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NIV)

From our stuff to our own bodies, God is the owner. We’re just managing His stuff while we’re here.

If you’re pushing back a little you might be saying, “Hey, I worked for this and bought it with my own money.” To which God says:

“You may say to yourself, ‘My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.’ But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, …” (Deuteronomy 8:17-18a NIV)

Bottom line: since God is the owner, I’ve got to figure out how to honor Him with His stuff which He allows me to have.

Please keep seeking God as you determine your commitment as a part of The Epic Life for the next two years.

Prayer thought:

If everything in this world is His, maybe we should change the question. Instead of Lord how much should I give, start your prayer by asking, “Lord, how much of Yours should I keep?”
