With your LifeGroup you’ll be taking a closer look at a very powerful section of the Bible specifically for husbands and wives. Have fun!
Stepping In: Getting things started!
1-In marriages that you’ve admired, what are some of the characteristics of those relationships that made them successful?
Building Up: What is God Saying?
Read Ephesians 5:21. In the original language, verse 21 is actually the end of a long sentence that begins in verse 18. It’s helping us to understand how we can be consistently filled with the Holy Spirit. How does submitting to one another help with that goal?
Read Ephesians 5:22-24. He’s already told us to submit to one another in verse 21, and now Paul gets specific. What are some ways this is abused? What are some ways this is best understood?
Read Ephesians 5:25-30. The word “submit” is not used again here like in verse 21, but the concept of sacrifice is clear. What are some ways a husband can sacrifice for the benefit of his wife physically, emotionally and spiritually?
Read Ephesians 5:31-32. This goes all the way back to Genesis 2. This has been God’s plan all along. So, how are our marriages better when we understand that the two are now ONE?
Read Ephesians 5:33. We effectively submit to the needs of our spouse (or friends for that matter) by providing what they actually need. Women need love and men need respect. How have you seen this positively impact your marriage or the marriage of others?
