One of the most amazing things about Jesus' ministry was that he didn't treat or even approach everyone the same way. People are different. We all have different issues, different needs and have come from different places. This week we see how Jesus stuck up a conversation with a most unlikely person.
Stepping In: Getting things started!
1-Where did you first meet Jesus? Was there a circumstance or a person primarily involved?
Building Up: What is God Saying?
Read John 4:4-14. What is the power and significance of Jesus’ ability to meet people where they were at and talk in terms they could understand?
Read John 4:15-26. The woman quickly changes the subject and shifts the attention off of her personal track record. Jesus goes with it and helps her see what is really important. What about His whole approach do you find most interesting and compelling?
Read John 4:28-30. Why do you think her invitation to “come and see” was so widely accepted? What can we do to help people accept our invitation?
Read John 4:39-42. It was her faith that got their attention, but now they believed because they had met Jesus too. An entire town was changed. How does this encourage you as we work on our town/valley?
Living Out: How do I obey?
1-This coming weekend at Community, John will be talking about how God meets us in our storms. Who could you invite and say, “come and see”?
2-What’s one thing you could do right now to give more credibility to your invitation?
3-Make a list of possible service projects you could do as a group.
