So, if Jesus says you can do something, no matter how unbelievable, guess what? Peter shows us something really unique in today’s reading.

Stepping In: READ IT

Read Matthew 14:1-36

Building Up: STUDY IT

Focus on Matthew 14:28-30

Most of the time I read these verses and start to get onto Peter, “Dude, come one. You should have had more faith.” But then, I have to admit that in the last few years I’ve been saying, “I wish I was more like Peter. He was the only one that had guts enough to get out of the boat.”

Living Out: APPLY IT

Application questions (Is there a… 1. Sin to CONFESS 2. Promise to CLAIM 3. Attitude to CHANGE 4. Command to OBEY 5. Example to FOLLOW (or not) 6. Prayer to PRAY 7. Error to AVOID 8. Truth to BELIEVE 9. Something to PRAISE GOD FOR).

While Peter eventually began to sink as he took his eyes off Jesus, I still think he’s a pretty good example to follow. John, Andrew, Thomas…none of the other disciples even gave it a shot. Like John Ortberg says, “If you want to walk on water, you have to get out of the boat.”

Dear Father, I don’t know exactly why we are so adverse to risk, but I want to be more of a risk taker. I’m not talking about coming up with some dumb idea and jumping into the deep, but I do want to follow you even when others think I’m dumb. If you say run, I’ll run. If you say jump, I’ll jump. I trust you more and more with each day that I spend in your Word. As risky as it is, Father, USE ME!
