For those of you joining me, we started this weekend to go through the book of Matthew one chapter per day. So, since we did chapter 1 in our worship experience, here are some of my take-a-ways from the second chapter. By the way, you can do your own study. The verse(s) I focus on each day were ones that jumped out to me. I'm just giving an example.
Remember, we are setting up our study time the same way we word our Mission here at Community.
Stepping In: READ IT
Read Matthew 2:1-23
Building Up: STUDY IT
Focus on Matthew 2:16
Why is Herod so angry? Why so threatened? Why do people today want to do whatever they have to do to get rid of Jesus even today?
Living Out: APPLY IT
You can jot down your own notes, I’m just trying to give you an example of how to write out a personal application from this verse. I will do it in the form of a prayer as I invite God to help me carry out what He’s been leading me to understand and do.
Dear Father, I suppose, at times, I’m uncomfortable with Jesus calling all the shots. If honest, I might even be a bit threatened by how much control you actually want when it comes to my life. However, rather than Herod, I want to be more like others in your Word that longed to be led by their King. Help me each and every day to surrender to your will for my life. Help me hear Your voice and respond immediately. Show me at least one way on this day where I can work WITH your plan, not AGAINST it. Instead of taking life, show me who I can encourage to find their life in You. I’ll keep my eyes open. Let’s go!
