I don’t know how many times I’ve heard it, but it’s been a lot over the years. “I wish I could quit my job and do real ministry.”
“There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.” (1 Corinthians 12:4-6 NIV)
On a side note, I love when the Apostle Paul describes the church as the “body of Christ” and shows us that Father, Son and Spirit are all very engaged in the process.
The reason I wanted you to read those verses today is for some clarity. God builds His church. God designs all of the parts. NOT all of the parts are on staff!
Most of those who are followers of Jesus are not on the staff of a church. Most work as a teacher, a cashier at Walmart, a salesman, a small-business owner, a cook or, well, you get the idea.
You have a unique opportunity to be doing real ministry right where you work (or go to school)…that’s where the people, who God longs to connect with, are.
Yes, here at Community we’re all committing to serve on a ministry/mission team. But, we are ALL doing real ministry every day. Never forget that!
Prayer thought:
If you are waiting for your circumstance to change before you become effective for God’s kingdom, if your life is on pause, it is time to PRESS PLAY. Stop wasting your life. Don’t look so forward to the weekend, that you miss the opportunities in front of you on a Monday. Stop waiting for a change in circumstance; use what you have been given. Whatever your personality, gifting and possessions, it is time to offer them up for use! Spend some time in prayer asking God what this means for you and telling Him you are ready!
