The Beauty of Communion

The Beauty of Communion

As I read through the Bible, I was reminded of communion when I got to Exodus 12.

When Jesus initiated what we call communion, He was celebrating the Passover with His disciples. The Lord’s Supper, as we call it, happened the night He was betrayed, arrested and then crucified.

The Jews were to celebrate the Passover every year to remind them what God had done. Now Jesus shifts the attention of this meal to focus on what He was about to do for all of us. His body and His blood…our Lamb of God.

Now the penalty of death can PASS OVER us! Thank you Jesus!!

“On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn of both people and animals, and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord. The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.” (Exodus 12:12-13 NIV)

“And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.’” (Luke 22:19-20 NIV)
