While reading through the Old Testament it’s not unusual to come across a story where people used stones to set up a monument. The monument could be for a number of reasons, but usually it was to help them remember something God did or something they had committed to do.
When I returned from Cambodia I had this visual reminder of someone’s commitment on my desk.
After our message about getting out of debt, someone cut up their credit cards and made a cross out of them. They also cut and pasted the commitment right from their message notes:
“Make a commitment to God and your FAMILY to get out and stay out of debt.”
That’s a pretty powerful visual reminder of the commitment they made that weekend.
It just reminded me of the importance and power of a monument or reminder of the commitments we make.
What’s a reminder you’ve used to help you stay on track with a commitment you’ve made?
I mean, hey, I wear a ring every day to remind me of a commitment I made to Michelle over 25 years ago!
