Since I was a child, the “youth group” was always pertaining to the church gathering of middle school and/or high school kids. Today, in a small village in Cambodia, I learned a new meaning of the phrase.

On our way to Battambang we stopped at a tiny village. We stopped here because Christopher LaPel was able to meet up with a few people from his “youth group”.

By the way, what he meant be the phrase was far different than what you and I might think. This “youth group” was a part of the work camp for young adults that was led by the Khmer Rouge during Pol Pot’s revolution. These four were able to laugh and reconnect. I couldn’t understand anything they said, but it was good to see it all happen before my eyes.

Later, Christopher told me how they had seen many of their friends executed right before there eyes. These were some of the ones that made it, the ones that stuck together. A couple of these friends have already become Christians. That’s probably why the reunion was so rich.
