As I read through the Bible again this year I’m struck over and over through the books of the Prophets in the Old Testament how God feels about heartless religious routine.

Going through the motions is possible, even with our heart completely disengaged.

Isaiah 29:13 (NIV) The Lord says: “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught.”

Heart check:

1-Why do I worship?

2-Why do I serve?

If my answers have more to do with what others think or how I think I’ll look in the eyes of those people, my heart may not be right with God.

What can we do to make sure our heart is headed in the right direction?
